Buying Pixels
If you're looking for pixels, you've come to the right place! We've got 958,000 of them.
Pixels on 958.com are available in 100 pixel 'blocks', with each block measuring 10x10 pixels. The grid on the homepage is divided into 9580 of these blocks. The reason for selling them in these blocks is because anything smaller than 10x10 pixels would be too small to display anything meaningful.
Each 10x10 block costs US$100, equating to a cost of $1 per pixel. You can buy as many blocks of pixels as you like, as long as there are some available (see the live stats in the top right corner of the page).
Please read all of the following Terms and Conditions below before buying any pixels - especially those marked in red.
Terms and Conditions
- The minimum purchase is US$100 (100 pixels), and the maximum purchase is whatever is left.
- When you 'buy' pixels on 958.com, you will not 'own' any part of the homepage or this site, but rather you are granted the right to submit an image and link which will then be published on the homepage in the respective space you have paid for.
- You cannot change the image or link once you have submitted them, so you must be sure of the image & link you want on the homepage, which will be there for at least 7 years. The only exception is if you have a strong reason why you need a change to your image/link, eg. your site no longer exists, major structural change to your site, lawsuits, etc.
- If your image and link are accepted and published on the homepage, YOU CANNOT GET A REFUND.
- The site and homepage will be online for at least 7 years (starting from the day it launched), so at least until December 2012, but possibly even longer.
- NO OBSCENE/OFFENSIVE/ADULT IMAGES links will be accepted, and I decide what is appropriate for my site. If you submit an image or link that is rejected, you will have the opportunity to provide an alternative, otherwise your money will be refunded and you will lose your pixels.
- If your link is accepted and you later change the content of the linked site to show OBSCENE/OFFENSIVE/ADULT material then your link will be removed until you provide a new one, and you will not get a refund of any kind for the link downtime.
- If for whatever reason in the future you want your image and link removed from the homepage, you can do that, but you will not get a refund and the space will become publically available again.
- Images must be the exact size you have paid for (eg. 100 pixels = 10x10 pixels).
- Images must be in GIF,JPEG, or PNG format, and a reasonable file size.
- Images must NOT be animated (imagine how messy the homepage would look).
- Links must be to web pages only and begin with http://
- You must have the authority to provide the image and link for the website you submit.
- Funds must be fully recieved and cleared before your pixels go live on the homepage.
- There might be occasional downtime for site maintenence but I'll try and keep these to a minimum.
- Once you have ordered and the funds have cleared (eg. in my PayPal or bank account), I will aim to get your pixels online within 24-48hrs (but please have patience if things kick off and loads of people order at the same time).
How to Order
Ok great, so now you're all set to buy some pixels. Our current payment method is through PayPal.
Because the pixels are sold in $100 blocks, please ensure you order the correct quantity of blocks when ordering. Once you have paid for your pixels, please send your e-mail to pixels@958.com with the following:
- Attach your image as a GIF, JPEG or PNG file. Your image must be the correct size for the pixels purchased.
- State where you want your graphic to be placed on the pixel grid. Indicate the shape and location of the pixels you would like to purchase. (eg. "location is 50 blocks across, 20 blocks down - top left corner, the image size is 10 across 20 down"). The pixel grid starts at coordinate (1,1). If your ad is irregular (not rectangular) in shape, indicate the location of each pixel. Let's say you want 5 blocks in a plus sign (+) configuration with the top of the plus sign starting at 50 blocks across, 20 blocks down. These are the coordinates you would submit. (49,21)(50,20)(50,21)(50,22)(51,21). You must send an image that conforms to this irregular shape or a series of rectangular images and indicate which image goes with which coordinate. Make sure you are certain, because you can't change it later.
- The pixel grid is 980 x 980 with 24 of the 100-pixel-blocks removed for a total of 958,000 pixels.
- State which website you would like your image linking to (must begin with 'http://').
- State what TITLE/ALT text you want for your image, max. 50 characters. TITLE/ALT text appears when people hover their cursor over your image.
The current estimated time from ordering your pixels to going live on homepage: 24 hours (please allow up to 48hrs). Please note if two or more people in the queue ask for the same position on the homepage, the person who ordered earliest will have priority.
